Good Gourd

Good Gourd

Halloween is tomorrow?! And we have yet to carve a pumpkin?! If you feel spooked like us, join us on a last-minute romp around the DIY pumpkin patch (I know, I know; only weeks ago we poked fun at decorative gourds, and now we seem to be embracing their orange siblings – oh well, we waffle).  Flip-flopping aside, we can say with certainty that it’s never too late to get your crafty ya-yas out. Once you’ve exorcised your DIY demons, stop by the café for some special Halloween treats including our Gingerdead Men.

Forgo the knife and pick up a paintbrush (way less mess, theoretically). Of course, Design*Sponge culled an inspiring patch of painted possibilities, including these chic rows of arrows.

During a session with Hank & Hunt, Design*Sponge got fancy with malachite marbling. Spooky meets luxe.

Paintbrush still in hand, Kidville came up with the concept of coating the p’kin in chalkboard paint to create an ever-ready canvas for ever-changing chalkisms.

Rogue mustaches always make us laugh, especially this hairy but blank-faced trio.

For the latent bedazzlers among us (like us), studs and gems are an easy way to add flair.

Drawing inspiration from Mexican sugar skulls, Ashley Hackshaw, aka Lil Blue Boo, created lacy owl-o-lanterns by drawing free-form with a Sharpie. A mildly daunting prospect, her tutorial helps guide even the shakiest of hands.

Whew, all this talk of crafting has made us tired… and hungry for the creepy cookies we baked.
