Thanksgiving itself is generally reserved for family time, for better or for worse. Whatever your family traditions may be – and we hope they include some form of Stuffing (cubed Persephone Levain Bread makes a great dressing base), Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy and Pumpkin Pie – there's another tradition that is perhaps even more up our alley, and that's Friendsgiving.
At Friendsgiving, you write the rules – it can be a Thanksgiving redux in the traditional sense or a mashup of your holiday favorites. This year we'll be gathering friends over brunch the weekend after Thanksgiving and will be playing host. We're taking cues from a recent gathering of blogger friends we entertained earlier this fall at Persephone Bakery.
The table will be set, the decor simple but seasonal, the coffee fresh brewed, the champagne popped, and an array of pastries will get us started before the main course arrives (likely made up of leftovers — Pumpkin Bread Pudding and Turkey Strata, anyone?).
Friends will leave with sweet treats – a small package of freshly baked cookies is our favorite party favor, or let Persephone do the work for you and treat your pals to Drinking Chocolate and Marshmallows to help get them through winter. Hopefully spirits are lifted and it all ends less bruised and bloodied than the family version.
