I think therefore I yam.

I think therefore I yam.

Nothing makes us chuckle quite like a good food pun. Becoming a vegetarian? What a missed steak. Try not to smile.

Greet ‘n’ Potatoes translates such silliness into hand-drawn greeting cards. Printing puns since 2013, the company grew from quips created by illustrator Merrily Grashin. A downtime doodler, she had amassed quite a collection of bad foodie puns plus drawings, so many she decided to do something with them. Teaming up with LQQX Studio of Bushwick, she launched a line of letterpress cards that poke fun at life through the lens of food and cocktails. By her silly hand, classic products become catchy tropes like “Nothing Camparis to you” or “I want to shower you with quiches.” Sometimes it takes a moment for the grin to set in. Each card features one of her prints, their refinement belying their ridiculousness: “fernet about it!” pairs the graceful bottle with miscapitalized scrawl; and “I think therefore I yam” stars a warted tuber.

Merrily’s cards merrily appear in a handful of Brooklyn stores, and soon, Persephone. Start plotting your punny strategy now.

“Aperol we’ve been through,” we might as well laugh. A lot.
