Giving Thanks

November is crowded with named days—Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday…but the new-kid-on-the-holiday-block aims to reinstate the heartfelt tenor of the season. #GivingTuesday

Our northern neighbors dubbed the day immediately following the long-weekend frenzy of retail sales as GivingTuesday — “the opening day of the giving season.” Following Canada’s cue, a conglomerate—led by the UN Foundation, 92nd Street Y in NYC and Mashable—brought GivingTuesday to the US in 2012. Now, some 4,700 organizations help promote the donation day worldwide. Free, open and inclusive, GivingTuesday encourages people to participate by making a gift to their favorite nonprofit(s) on November 29th—a gift of financial resources, volunteer time or other expression of generosity.

Eager to do our part, we turned to the Toolkit (a free resource also available for charities and businesses) and decided to get involved on a local level. All day on Tuesday, November 29th, we will be donating 100% of the sales of our beloved Chocolate Chip Cookies to the Santa Clause Fund.

The Santa Claus Fund was officially started in 1982 by Carol and Dick Travis of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, with the goal of buying new toys and clothes for children of families who are in crisis or considered to be low income. Over 100 volunteer shoppers will shop anonymously for over 400 children, wrap and tag all gifts and deliver them to St. John’s Church a week before Christmas to be distributed by our agent, the Community Resource Center.

So please help us celebrate the true spirit of the season by indulging in a cookie on Tuesday!
